Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike & BDL
You have been on a Hectic 2 week tour, how has that been treating you?
Every gig has been amazing so far. Every gig has been sold out – except for the blizzard in Canada. Our first show took us about 24 hours to get there. They usually don’t get snow so everything was jam-packed. Also took us over 12 hours to get from there to San Diego. San Diego and Los Angeles was crazy. Phoenix was crazy – a lot of girls there.
What is the workflow like with the both of you in the studio?
We never really work together in the studio. We both have our own studios. I make a lot of ideas – we wake up early and start working and send stuff back and forth.
You have released your biggest track of the year so far – Momentum. How did that song come to be?
That was just a bit different and really fun. One day we went to the studio with a friend and started messing around. We came up with this catchy melody. Normally we switch into the hard drop but sine the melody was so catchy we just built on that. The result is pretty different than our usual stuff.
We all know the work you’ve done for Tomorrowland’s anthem last summer. How would you explain to an American, the vibe of Tomorrowland as a festival itself?
In one sentence I would just say it is Disney Land for house music. You get sucked into this magical world of elves and crazy fairy tale figures for 3 days. The production is crazy and the main stage is unreal. I think there are about 100,000 people a day for 3 days with over 14 stages.
Will you be there this summer? Any chance you will be making their 2012 anthem?
We have to say that will be a surprise. Classified.
What are some remixes or bootlegs that have become fixtures in your DJ set that you drop the most often?
It changes so much it is hard to say. Of course, something that always works is our edit of levels. In general we are kind of picky. If a track doesn’t work once or twice it flies out of the play list. We hope all of our tracks work very well.
What is your goal for the New Year and who is one artist you would like to collaborate with most in 2012?
The big goal is world domination as usual. We have a couple of interesting collaboration in the pipeline. There are a lot of artists we would like to work with. We respect artists from all different genres. We would love to work with hip-hop artists. Coldplay and U2 would be dream collaborations.
What can we look forward to as far as new material and new releases?
There are a lot of tours. We are completely booked until the end of the summer. We have one album ready – but we don’t want to release an album. We wanted to do that last year but we kind of stepped away form that idea. We have a ton of tracks ready and are looking for vocals for them. It is going to be a big surprise, even for us.
